八大地狱

(八大地獄, 八大地狱)

([lang id =1028]八大) The eight great naraka, or hot hells:

(1) sañjīva [lang id =1028]等活 hell of rebirth into

(2) kāla-sūtra [lang id =1028]黑繩, i.e. the hell of black cords or chains;

(3) saṅghāta [lang id =1028]衆合, in which all are squeezed into a mass between two mountains falling together;

(4) raurava [lang id =1028]號呌; hell of crying and wailing;

(5) mahāraurava [lang id =1028]大號呌 hell of great crying;

(6) tapana [lang id =1028]炎熱　hell of burning;

(7) pratāpana [lang id =1028]大熱 hell of fierce heat;

(8) avīci [lang id =1028]無間 unintermitted rebirth into its sufferings with no respite. v.　[lang id =1028]地獄 and [lang id =1028]八寒地獄.
